Statement

I photographed the Beitostolen Healthsports Center in Beitostolen, Norway, for "The Physician and Sportsmedicine." My friend Magna Roe, a Norwegian newspaper photographer, also visited the center to shoot more pictures for my magazine article about the center. I traveled to Beitostolen to write a feature story about the blind cultural leader Ehrling Stordahl's unique center for handicapped people. On a dark and rainy day, I photographed a man lifting a handicapped rider onto a horse. The picture became the double-page photograph on the spread that opened my story "Beitostolen:Shangi-La for the Handicapped."

Norwegians considered the blind folk singer and cultural leader Ehrling Stordahl to be the most beloved man in Norway, beside the King. His royal history and fame spread throughout the Scandinavian countries and around the world, as he became the chairman of the International Year of the Handicapped. Even today, YouTube features his music.
