I guessed there was a lady in the case!
Determined to elope!
My aunt... what a bore!
What is it you mean, sir?
Lydia Languish is a novel fanatic lost in a dreamy soap opera-like world, but is forced through the course of "The Rivals" to learn to accept the hum drum weddings with the reality of true love... all at the tender age of seventeen. Having played numerous minor character hopeless romantics, it was a treat to explore the not so suddle idiosyncrasies of Sheridan's major role. Lydia is melodramatic, but it is a sincere melodrama based in real love and affection and companionship with her soul mate, Captain Absolute. In the end, we know they will get on swimmingly despite her reluctance to accept her "aunt's consent and approbation."
"Well, I should never think of giving my heart to a man because he could swim."
