Television commercials are one of the many area's of American society where people are, (for the most part), paid to lie. Why not let the truth be told. As Abraham Lincoln expressed, (summary), "The American people should be told the truth. The people of this country are strong enough to handle the truth."
In today's society there is so much deception in almost every aspect of society. One thing I have learned since moving to the U.S. is that telling the truth more often than not harmful. For example, on the application for citizenship there is the question:
"Have you ever knowingly committed a crime and not been arrested for it?"
Answer: Yes, the Anthrax mailings. (Joke). What is someone to say.
I don't want to lie, but I am virtually being forced to in order to become a citizen.
There is no truth in advertising and it disgusts me. This has spread into so many other aspects of American culture it needs to be addressed.
