Zouaves were units of soldiers, both from the North and the South, with uniforms inspired by those worn by French colonial troops in Norh Africa.  This is the last page from "B is for Battle Cry: A Civil War Alphabet", and when you consider how tricky it is to come up with the letter "Z" for such books, you can imagine how happy my wife, Pat Bauer, was to use this entry in our book.
