Statement

At first, the scene appears foreign and unsettling. But the sound of the drum is the heartbeat of Mother Earth. The dancers move in a giant circle. The circle represents the sun, moon, nest, tipi, and life itself. The dancers appear to gesture like their relatives the animals; the four legged and the winged. The singers chant a song honoring the warriors and giving thanks for the gifts that sustain the people. This is not foreign, it is their song, their land, their tradition. Their prayers and mine rise to the Creator on the wings of eagles. This is the Wacipi.
