Applications Open for the 2020 New York Portfolio Review
Apply now for the free three day event for photographers on March 27, 28 and 29.
We are again bringing together 110 talented photographers with 75 top photo editors, publishers, curators, gallery owners and video producers, for the 8th annual New York Portfolio Review on March 27, 28 and 29 in New York City. Applications are now open for the free New York Portfolio Review, which is produced by The New York Times photo department, the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York and United Photo Industries. Participation is open to anyone over 18 years old, and all types of photography will be considered. The deadline is Tuesday November 19, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Now a mainstay of photo events in the United States, the review convenes members of the photographic community to meet, trade ideas, help each other — and have fun. This year there will be a full day of classes, workshops and presentations for the photographers on Friday March 27, focusing on working with curators and photo editors, book publishing, running a business and negotiating contracts, community engagement strategies, editing and sequencing your own photos and self-care among other topics. On Saturday each participant will receive six private critiques and on Sunday they will have four private critiques.
We will screen all applicants and choose 110 participants who will all attend all three days. This year there will be travel grants to assist between 15 and 20 participants to attend the review, thanks to the generosity of Prince Claus Fund, Open Society Foundations, and The Chris Hondros Fund. Once the participants are chosen those that wish to apply for financial assistance will have the opportunity to do so.
Please note: Photographers who attended last year’s review are not eligible to apply. Those who attended once in previous years can apply for this year’s review, but they must submit new work. Those who have already attended the review twice cannot apply.
Once photographers are selected, they will submit their top choices for reviewers of their work. We will match participants with as many of those reviewers as possible. If you have any questions email us.
To enter, send no more than 20 photos total, from one or two projects, using the form below. The files should be JPEGS, 1,200 pixels across and 72 D.P.I. We will inform those who are accepted by Dec. 18, 2019. Be sure to triple-check the email address you submit.
Below the submission form is a partial list of reviewers who will be at the New York Portfolio Review. If you have any questions email us at [email protected].
